Water Sampling

Having clean water is essential for good health. BRHD can test your water for bacteriologicals (coliform + E. coli) and nitrates. A sterile sampling bottle can be picked up at our Environmental Health location during our normal operating hours.

Fees:

$25 Presence/Absence Bacteriological Sample
$30 Quantitative Bacteriological Sample
$30 Nitrate Sample

Food Safety 

If you plan to serve food to the public, you will need a food permit. All empolyees serving, prepping, or working in a food service kitchen must have a food handler permit.

*TCS Foods = Time/Temperature Control for Safety, which includes items such as meat, poultry, dairy products, eggs, cut fruits, cooked vegetables, etc.

Recess Guidelines

It can be challenging to determine when it is safe to have recess outdoors. Here are the guidelines.

PM 2.5 above 55.5: All students stay indoors.
PM 2.5 35.5 – 55.4: Students with respiratory symptoms & sensitive students stay indoors.
PM 2.5 below 35.4: All students outdoors.

Vehicle Emissions

To protect the health of the public and the environment, air quality is of the utmost importance. The Bear River Health Department has maintained a vehicle emissions testing program since 2014 which serves Cache County and the residents within. Vehicles may subject to testing every two years based upon the model year.

Mass Gatherings

A mass gathering permit is necessary in the case of an actual or reasonably anticipated assembly of 1,000 or more people, which continues or can reasonably be expected to continue for two or more hours a day, at a site or sites for a purpose different from the designed use and usual type of occupancy.

General Inspection · Residential Care · Daycare

Many facilities are required to obtain inspections conducted by the Health Department in order to obtain or maintain state licensure.

Pool/Spa Permits

All public pools, spas, and special purpose pools as defined in R392-302 are regulated by the Bear River Health Department. Our goal is to help minimize the risk of recreational water-related injuries, illnesses, and drownings. All public pools and spas are required to be permitted and inspected by the health department.

Septic/Wastewater Applications

A septic permit is a legal document required by Bear River Health Department before constructing, altering, or repairing a septic system on a property where sewer lines are not available.  The permit allows the homeowner to install a system to treat and dispose of wastewater from their home, which must meet specific design and location standards based on the property’s soil conditions and site plan, and soil percolation test results.

Body Art Applications

All businesses offering body art services are required to obtain a body art facility permit from the health department. Body art services include tattooing, body piercing, permanent cosmetics, microblading, branding, and scarification.

Tanning

The tanning program covers any commercial use of tanning beds. The establishments are required to have certified operators and an up-to-date permit.

$175 Permit (1-2 beds)

Liquid Waste Haulers

Liquid Waste Haulers are trucks that pump septic systems and dispose of the waste in approved reception areas.

Fees:

$70 for the first permitted septic tank pumping truck
+ $35 for each additional septic tank pumping truck (associated with the same facility)

Methamphetamine Decontamination

The illegal use and manufacture of Methamphetamine and Fentanyl based substances has become a public health and environmental concern.  The chemical contamination program at Bear River Health Department is focused on identifying properties that have been tested as unsafe and working in conjunction with certified decon specialists to restore them to safe levels.

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

Household hazardous waste is made of any leftover and unwanted household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients. These products commonly have warning labels with signal words such as: “DANGEROUS” or “POISON”. Household hazardous waste includes, but is not limited to: paints, oils, batteries, pesticides, repellants, mercury, antifreeze, wood stains, etc.

You should not dispose of Hazardous household waste in your trash or poor chemicals down the drain. These items can pose a threat to sanitarian workers and the landfills and can contaminate the environment if not deposed of properly. Household hazardous waste can be disposed of at Logan Landfill Household Hazardous Waste Facility. 

No Smoking Signage
